**Destination Unknown: Dred's Quest**
.
Dreadhorse Chapter 12
.
Dred’s phone buzzed unexpectedly, cutting through the silence of the dimly lit room. His heart leaped at the abrupt vibration, but he quickly reached for it, expecting nothing more than an automated message or advertisement. However, what he saw made his breath hitch. A single message blinked on the screen: “39.957470, -75.172707.”

Coordinates. Why would someone send him geographical coordinates? His logical mind raced to categorize and decipher this enigmatic lead. Despite the oddity, an inherently drawn curiosity pulled at him. Was it connected to the dream? Or the mounting series of electrical malfunctions? The concerns spiraled, echoing warnings around the edges of his mind.

Driven by an unshakeable feeling, Dred plugged the coordinates into his mapping application. His eyes widened as it pointed to a nondescript spot just outside the city—a part of town known for its old, abandoned warehouses. The kind of place where unsavory activities lurked in the shadows far from the prying eyes of authority. Yet there was a movement inside him, a calling he couldn’t dismiss, urging him to uncover whatever wriggled hidden just below the surface.

Struggling to shake the clinging worries, Dred began to prepare. A solemn resolve settled over him, counterbalanced by a sense of alert dread. Before he left, he hesitated, a brief consideration to inform Lor of his plans. But he dismissed the thought—this was his investigation, his line to explore.

Meanwhile, in another part of the city, Jane, a weary old woman, shuffled through the dim corridors of her modest apartment. Her heart clung to an unreachable affection, an unrequited love for someone long gone. Her life felt like a series of repetitive motions, yet even amidst loneliness, she perceived something inherently wrong with the city. The electrics constantly flickered irregularities, patterns unnoticed by others who shrugged them off. Could they possibly mean something deeper?

Across town, another character, shy Alyssa, grappled with her introspective nature, trying to muster the courage to engage more with the outside world. Her awareness flared with increased resolve, noticing others’ agitation and paranoia. What connected them all was their growing belief that the unexplained glitches in technology were more than mere anomalies.

As Dred approached the designated location, he realized he wasn’t alone in finding purpose here. Similar figures moved cautiously under the broken streetlights, converging, feeling the same magnetic draw. Nervously, they exchanged glances as a foreboding presence hung heavy over the disused site. Shadows flickered, forming and reforming, suggesting something more profound and hidden.

His eyes darted back to his phone, now blinking erratically. As he puzzled over this new glitch, the screen displayed a sequence, cryptographically complex—a hidden message layered within ones and zeros. His excitement peaked; this was it, a code to decipher the larger conspiracy he suspected. But suddenly, the beeping intensified, the phone flashing a warning: “Detected.”

Dred’s heart froze. His snooping had tripped an alarm. Somewhere, someone knew he was here, and now he was marked as an intruder. He whipped his head around, aware of being watched, perhaps even from the network tendrils that lurked unseen but ever-present. He needed to warn Lor and Kel, but was it too late?

The impending reality weighed heavily, his decision lingering only for a moment before he moved to warn those in the warehouse. Yet the certainty settled in—he was embroiled in something vastly more intricate and perilous than he could have anticipated. With equal parts fear and defiance, Dred pressed on, his every step echoing the sounds of a clandestine city unraveling its secrets.
